The next #DitchtheDSLR” event starts soon

Remember that back on June 4, Samsung hosted an event in New York under the “Ditch the DSLR” banner. Back then, the Korean tech giant offered to award a new NX30 camera to whoever traded in their old DSLR.

The offer only lasted a day and while supplies lasted, but even so the campaign proved to be successful to the extent Samsung plans to do it again. This time on the West Coast.

On October 14, the Korean tech giant is expected to be present at the Hollywood and Highland Center in Los Angeles for a new #DitchtheDSLR session, reports Digital Trends.

The free NX30 campaign moves to L.A.

Like in New York, folks are tempted to abandon their current DSLR with the promise of receiving a brand new NX30. But this time Samsung is also throwing the NX Mini in the soup.

When referring to DSLRs, Samsung simply means DSLRs, so no other cameras will be accepted. Also note, the shooters need to be still functional and traded in with the kit lens and battery.

What will Samsung do with the cameras it has collected and replaced? Well, the tech giant claims they will be donated to the less fortunate.

The ditching campaign is Samsung’s way of aggressively promoting its lineup of compact system cameras, which are mirrrorless interchangeable lens products.

On top of being able to trade in their old DSLRs (while supplies last), those present on the grounds at the event will also be invited to try out Samsung’s different products in a variety of scenarios.

Two Hollywood stars will be present at the event

Samsung is bringing the big guns at the event and has invited Hollywood stars Nick Cannon of America’s Got Talent and Julianne Hough of Dancing with the Stars to make a guest appearance.

Together they will attempt to break a selfie Guinness World Record. If this happens, Samsung will donate $50,000 / €39,000 to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.

Samsung needs a campaign as aggressive as these in order to make its presence noticed in the United States. For starters, US consumers haven’t really taken to the mirrorless market the way their counterparts in Europe and Asia have done.

Also, Samsung is only making compact system cameras so the company is trying to promote them as being on-par with DSLRs performance-wise while offering more versatility than a smartphone camera does.

The event is due to kick start soon, so if you too have a functional DSLR around at home, you better start scrapping the dust off it.
