Samsung Z1 is being offered on the Indian market

After being delayed countless times, Samsung finally took the wraps off its first Tizen-based handset, the Z1, a few weeks ago in India.

But not long afterwards, a report came out of Reuters already prophesizing its doom. According to it, the device failed to entice customers due to its under-performing specs and lack of app ecosystem.

The Samsung Z1 is pretty boring, overall

If you don’t remember, we’ll tell you that the Z1 is offered with a 4-inch display at a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, which is way below the current market standard. The handset also has a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU fitted with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

Not much to look at but Samsung claims the Tizen platform onboard is so much lighter than anything else you could hope to find on the market, so the handset should run extremely smooth albeit not offering the latest in specifications.

Anyway, could it be that the first report was wrong and Samsung’s Z1 is actually thriving? It might as well be the case.

New information spurting out of Asia and brought to us via Business Korea claims Samsung managed to sell up to 50,000 units of the Z1 in the first 10 days after launch.

Samsung says the Z1 is getting the attention they hoped for

Given that the Z1 sells for just $91 / €78 a pop, we wouldn't be all that surprised that this is the case. An official speaking on behalf of Samsung claimed that volume sales of their first Tizen OS handset exceeded expectations.

Samsung is manufacturing the Z1 locally in India and is also throwing in a bunch of exclusive content bundles in order to make the device more attractive to media-hungry consumers.

So maybe the Z1 isn't doomed after all and Tizen OS still has a chance of making a statement on the mobile market. Would you consider the Z1 as a worthy purchase?
