It looks like Samsung isn’t just taking your money for the smartphones and tablets that you purchase, but the South Korean company is also giving some of the fruits of its labor back to the community.

The last good deed checked by Samsung is the donation of no less than 3,000 smartphones in support of the fight against Ebola. The plague, which has killed more than 4,500 people by now, originates from Africa, with only a few cases registered on other continents (Europe, North America).

All 3,000 Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo units will be used in more than 60 Ebola medical clinics in three African countries that were hit by the virus outbreak: Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Samsung confirmed that the smartphones would be donated through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Human Affairs and would be used in the Humanitarian Connectivity Project, the UN’s IT project that takes advantage of mobile devices to offer humanitarian support in disaster areas.

Still, some of you may wonder how this is going to help fight against such a terrible virus as Ebola. Well, everything counts and thanks to the new smartphones donated by Samsung, medical staff will be able to download and install the UN’s Smart Health Pro application and treat patients as well as collect medical data.

The smartphones will be used to collect medical data from patients

Moreover, quarantined patients will be able to contact their families using the donated Samsung Galaxy S3 Neo units that will make their way into the African countries mentioned earlier.

Obviously, once the virus outbreak has subsided, all 3,000 smartphones donated will be destroyed. Let’s hope that will be sooner rather than later.

It’s also worth mentioning that these smartphones are worth about $1 million (€787k), which is a small price to pay for those affected by the virus.

According to Samsung, the company “is also supporting various efforts to defeat Ebola in Africa, including providing financial support for the purchase of hazmat suits in Ghana and distribution of hand sanitizers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as launching an Ebola SMS text service in South Africa”

We’re pretty sure that all those to benefit from Samsung’s donation will be happy to use the Galaxy S3 Neo to remain in contact with their loved ones or simply to obtain medical data from those affected by the virus without having to be exposed.

It’s a great deal that Samsung helps fight Ebola with everything it can, so let’s hope many others in the smartphone business will follow the South Korean example.
