Samsung has kick-started a global rollout for the tablet

Android 5.0 Lollipop made its way into the wild five months ago, but since then not too many tablets have gotten updated to the new build.

Sure, there’s Google’s Nexus 9 which arrives with the latest version of Android out of the box, and the rest of the Nexus tablets received the same treatment a short while afterwards.

NVIDIA’s Shield Tablet was one of the few non-Google tablets that got updated to the new Android build, and in recent days, we've also seen the Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet and Z2 Tablet receiving the sweet treatment.

As far as Samsung is concerned, the company has been relatively quick to offer the update for some of its phones, but it hasn't delivered it yet for its tablet lineup.

However, we did hear that the Korean tech giant was hard at work on making the Lollipop update available for its Galaxy Tab S duo of premium AMOLED tablets. We even spotted the two models running Lollipop last month, so back then, we guessed the wait shouldn't be a long one.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 is finally getting updated to Google's latest

Fast forward one month it appears that Samsung is finally delivering the promised goods. Reports coming to us via Sam Mobile reveal that the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (Wi-Fi SM-T800) model is receiving the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update in France and Canada.

The Lollipop update has a build date of March 17 and is currently rolling out OTA (Over-the-Air), but there’s also the option of hooking up your device to your computer and installing the firmware via Samsung’s Kies software. It’s your choice.

As is customary with these updates, some models will be getting Android 5.0.2 sooner than others, depending on your location, but given the fact that we’re hearing reports from both Canada and Europe regarding the arrival of the update, we can estimate Samsung is pushing the new build globally.

Keep in mind that the new build is compatible only with the Wi-Fi Galaxy Tab S 10.5 model, but the LTE model and the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 version will probably receive the same treatment soon.

As we told you a few days ago, there’s no information on whether Samsung plans to push the newest Android 5.1 to its devices. Hopefully, this will be the case at some point in the future.
