We've been telling you Samsung is gearing up to produce new tablets, which was to be expected given the fact that the Korean tech giant hasn't produced anything in terms of slates ever since IFA 2014.

Well, the Galaxy Tab A and Tab A Plus names have been popping up around the web ever since last month and now, at an event in Russia, Samsung has taken the opportunity to unveil the Galaxy Tab A.

The tablet will be offered in 8-inch and 9.7-inch variants, and as confirmed by the rumor mill prior to the event, the slobs will boast 4:3 aspect ratio (as seen at Sam Mobile).

However, if you were hoping for a new Samsung tablet with amazing specs, you’ll probably be quite disappointed by the Galaxy Tab A.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A will fail to wow you

The slates aren't too much to look at, coming with pretty uninspired, mid-range specs. Samsung is probably trying to fill in some niches it hasn't tackled in terms of budget tablets. The Galaxy Tab A is the first affordable 9.7-incher than can be purchased from the company.

So let’s take a look at the internal specifications. The Galaxy Tab A boasts 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, a Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.2GHz (probably a Snapdragon 410, but we’re not told exactly), 4G connectivity and a 5MP/2MP camera combo.

There’s also 16GB of internal storage plus microSD card (to expand memory up to 128GB) and we’re not told how much RAM we can expect to see onboard (probably 1GB).

Both models are sustained by a 4,200 mAh battery which should allow the 8-incher to run up to 10 hours and the 9.7-incher to live for as long as 7.5 hours.

The larger tablet also takes advantage of two loudspeakers. As is visible from the live images we obtained, the Galaxy Tab A seems to be running Samsung’s latest TouchWiz interface (based on Android 5.0 Lollipop), which means the skin looks cleaner and more natural.

The two tablet models will start selling in Russia next month, with the 8-incher starting at $275 / €258 and the 9.7-incher going up from $340 / €320. Quite expensive for the specs on board, but pricing for the international market hasn't been revealed yet.
