For the time being, only the Wi-Fi version is updated

Back in June we brought you news that the 7-inch and 8-inch versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 family have been updated to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. But owners of the 10.1-inch model were left out in the cold, because no new build was pushed out for their device.

Well, a bunch of months later the much-expected new build seems to have finally made its way into the wild. At last.

Android 4.4 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 spotted in Australia

So Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 is time to dust off your tablets right now, because the tablet has started receiving Android 4.4 KitKat in some regions of the world. For the time being, as AusDroid reports, the new build has been spotted in Australia.

As you might well know, in the case of such over-the-air (OTA) updates, they happen gradually so they will hit different users in different countries at different times.

This means it might take days to even weeks until you get a notification that the new build has been made available for your slate.

You could also take the pro-active route and try checking in the Settings section for yourself, to see if the new piece of software is there waiting for you.

The usual Android 4.4 KitKat improvements will be added to your tab

The new build is P5210XXUBNH1, and even though we don’t have an official change log for it, we can tell you it will bring about the usual Android KitKat features, including the transparent status bar and Launcher chooser in settings.

On top of that, Samsung has probably thrown in the ability to add the camera shortcut to the lockscreen, on top of some performance improvements, like it’s the case with the smaller members in the Tab 3 family.

So if you have received the update on your tablet, drop us a line and tell us how it’s going for you and if everything works well.

The 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab is the largest model from the Tab 3 family which saw the light of day back in 2013.

The tablet comes with a TFT capacitive touchscreen offering 1280 x 800 pixels with 149 ppi. The product runs on a dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor clocked at 1.6GHz and working with PowerVR SGX544MP2 GPU.

The tablet proved to be quite popular with consumers due to its friendly price-tag and the addition of Android’s latest OS version will certainly boost its appeal.

Originally, the slate came with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but with a little patience you’ll be able to bump this version up in a few.
