Could this be better than Galaxy S5's 2,800 mAh battery?

Earlier this week there has been talk about Samsung Galaxy S6 packing a 2,600 mAh battery, which is 200 mAh smaller than that of the previous model.

Now, everyone knows that whatever technology smartphone makers claim they have embeded into their batteries so they can last longer, these are just marketing stunts.

A higher mAh battery will always provide better life assuming the smartphones you compare it with has similar specs. The Galaxy S6 is supposed to come with even better hardware than the Galaxy S5, but despite the need for more energy to feed its hardware, Samsung has decided to include an even smaller battery.

After less than a year of use, Samsung Galaxy S5 doesn't last more than a day on average use and it embeds a 2,800 mAh battery, which is supposed to last for up to 21 hours of talk time and 390 hours of standby time.

Rumor has it that Samsung Galaxy S6 will feature a non-removable 2,600 mAh battery, and its Edge counterpart will pack a similar battery.

Lower battery for a more powerful smartphone

If you did not want to believe that, then here is some bad news for you. A few pictures taken from a battery manufacturer line show what appears to be the battery for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (codename EB-BG925ABE), as having 2,600 mAh.

Considering the Galaxy S6 Edge's codename is G925, it makes sense to assume that this is the battery to be included in Samsung's upcoming flagship smartphone.

It's unclear why Samsung took this decision because, even if its Exynos chipset that's supposed to equip the Galaxy S6 will be less power hungry than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset inside the Galaxy S5, we're talking about an even smaller battery here.

Let's hope there's more to the 2,600 mAh battery Samsung wants to put inside the Galaxy S6 than the pure numbers. Time will tell whether this was a smart decision or not, but people will most likely be scared at the thought of buying another flagship smartphone that needs to be charged daily.
