After registering a major flop with last year’s Galaxy S5, Samsung had to go back to the drawing board and re-think what a flagship phone should be all about.

Luckily for us, the Korean tech giant listened to critiques and this year pushed out a top-tier phone all clad in metal that looked and felt a lot more premium than its previous flagships.

Samsung also significantly trimmed down the controversial TouchWiz interface, which at least in theory should allow the phone to run more smoothly.

On the other hand, these features come at a cost, as the company had to sacrifice a bunch of features most Samsung fans had deeply cherished throughout the years. Most importantly, the new Samsung flagship fails to feature a microSD card and a removable battery.

But new unearthed evidence seems to indicate that Samsung will not abandon its fans from the days of old.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active might be the answer to your prayers

A few weeks ago, word online surfaced that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active could make a debut under the AT&T banner this May. Now, a Reddit member going by the name of Garshol, who reportedly met with a Samsung representative, shared some information with us about the upcoming rugged phone.

Apparently, the company’s official disclosed some essential tidbits about the upcoming phone, revealing that, although most specs would be quite similar to those of the Galaxy S6, we should expect some changes too. For starters, the Galaxy S6 Active will be devoid of a fingerprint reader and a pulse reading sensor.

On top of that, the main camera will be of a lesser capacity and might arrive bundled with an OIS (optical image stabilization) lens. He goes on to say that the phone will feature some buttons on the front, but the most interesting part is that the new device is said to include an SD card reader.

Samsung’s representative also explained to Garshol why they decided against the implementation of an SD card on the regular Galaxy S6. Apparently, this was due to the slower memory compared to their newer UFS 2.0 (universal flash storage), which should bring about much faster memory speeds.

According to Garshol’s most recent comments in the thread, the Galaxy S6 Active will also bring back the removable battery affair. He invites you to take a look at the Xcover 3 phone if you want to get an idea of what the S6 Active will look like.
