Samsung is looking to refresh the 2014 model

Samsung’s fans probably remember that last year the company rolled out the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) Edition on September 4, as a successor of the first generation Galaxy Note 10.1.

A year later and we haven’t seen any traces of a refresh, well until now. The folks over at TechTastic have uncovered a listing on the company’s official website related to the Watch On application.

The app allows users of Samsung smartphones and tablets to turn their devices into a remote used to control their TV, set-top box, DVR and other devices of the sort.

So far so good, but the interesting part is where Samsung goes on to mention the devices compatible with the app.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2015) name pops up. Could it be a typo of some sort? We don’t really think this is the case, especially since the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) is also present in the list.

At this point, we can’t really say when Samsung plans to launch the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2015). The most plausible theory is that the Korean tech giant is waiting for Android 5.0 Lollipop to be rolled out into the wild before making a move.

On the other hand, Samsung might be waiting for all the fuss created by the launch of the Nexus 9, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 to go away, so it can have a real shot of winning customers’ hearts.

As for the specifications, we have nothing concrete to hold on to, but as always, we can give it our best shot in trying to assume what the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2015) will bring to the table.

Since the advent of the Galaxy Tab S family which takes advantage of AMOLED displays, Samsung hasn't released anything new and exciting in terms of tablets, so the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2015) might be the needed element to fill in the space.

Most likely, the new tab will take advantage of the same AMOLED display which has been hailed numerous times for providing crisp colors and an overall wonderful viewing experience.

The 10.1-inch panel could deliver 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution or maybe even more. Below the hood, Samsung might slip in an Exynos 5433 SoC from its own garden (the same that powers the Galaxy Note 4) while a Snapdragon 805 SoC will go on to power the 4G version.

We could also hypothesize that Samsung will equip the tab with 3GB of RAM and bestow a bunch of extra features to the stylus the Note traditionally comes with.

Take into consideration that all we have told you so far is just pure speculation, but one thing is certain.

References to the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2015) have been spotted online, and if we’re lucky, we could get to see the tablet before 2014 comes to an end.
