Samsung ATIV SE owners, this is the moment you've all been waiting for! Verizon has finally approved the long-awaited Windows Phone 8.1 update, so you can now download and install it on your smartphones.

The ATIVE SE is among the last smartphones to receive Windows Phone 8.1 update in the United States and it's unclear whether or not Microsoft will offer the new Windows 10 for Phones for this particular device that's not even one year old.

Anyway, those who own the ATIV SE should know that the update is pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, so if you haven't been notified yet, then you should manually check for it.

Windows Phone 8.1 brings lots of new features and improvements over the previous version of the operating system. You get Cortana personal assistant, which will allow you to set reminders and appointments.

The update also adds Start Screen enhancements like the option to add a background image with translucent tiles, or the lock screen orientation in settings.

The Action Center is a completely new experience that provides users with the option to make quick setting changes without unlocking the phone. The Action Center is customizable from the Notifications settings screen.

Hopefully, this won't be the last major update for ATIV SE

The volume slider now allows users to select volumes for different activities, such as ringer and media playback. You can also choose to switch your phone to silent or vibrate mode.

Then there's Internet Explorer 11, which promises to deliver fast web browsing. The browser features inline video, InPrivate mode, and users can even pin websites as Live Tiles.

Skype call integration is included as well, along with some Sense apps such as Wi-Fi Sense, Data Sense, Battery Saver and Storage Sense. New Calendar UI, App Folder and Universal Search are among the new features added in Windows Phone 8.1.
