14 DAY TRIAL // Samsung ATIV S is an old smartphone, but it's still among the most hackable available on the market. Even though Microsoft's Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview is only compatible with Lumia smartphones, people managed to install it on Samsung ATIV S as well.
If the smartphone could be made to run Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview, there shouldn't be too much trouble in making it run Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2.
The only issue until recently was the fact that Microsoft did not release Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, but the Redmond-based company promised a few handsets like Lumia 735 and Lumia 830 would receive this new version of the OS.
Currently, Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL are the only smartphones that ship with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 right out of the box.
However, less than two weeks ago when Microsoft release another Windows 10 for Phones Technical Preview build, many Lumia owners reported that they have received GDR2 update when trying to upgrade.

This week, a few WindowsMania.pl forum users managed to hack the Samsung ATIV S to download and install Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2.
We're not sure how they managed to do that, but they have promised to release a tutorial showing Samsung ATIV S owners how they can download and install this version of Windows Phone.
Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 brings lots of new features and improvements over the previous version of the OS, including MKV video file support, additional security features and many improvements to various connectivity options.
All these features will be available in Windows 10 for Phone when Microsoft releases it later this summer, but until then Samsung ATIV S owners will be able to take advantage of these features if they want to hack their phones to run Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2.
