Samba, the world’s most used software solution for accessing shared Windows directories over a network in GNU/Linux and Mac OS X operating systems, has been updated to version 4.2.2.

According to the attached changelog, Samba 4.2.2 is a bugfix release that patches over 30 issues that have been reported by users or discovered by Samba developers since the previous version of the software.

Among the most significant changes, we can mention better systemd detection in the waf build system, a fix for a panic triggered by smbd_smb2_request_notify_done() -> smbXsrv_session_find_channel() in the smbd daemon, and improved portability in CTDB.

Furthermore, various IPv6-related issues have been repaired in Samba's CTDB setup, whose statd-callout function is now correctly scaled. A "bashism" has been addressed in the ctdbd_wrapper script, a coverity patch has arrived in CID 1291643, and vfs_fruit can now map characters below 0x20.

Also worth mentioning is a fix for an issue with the "terminate connection" behavior of the asynchronous endpoint that did not function correctly with PUSH notification flavors. Moreover, acl_xattr now supports mangled names, and the correct file size is now being returned in the response of "FILE_SUPERSEDE Create" to the s3: smbd daemon.

Many other issues have been resolved in Samba 4.2.2

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Samba 4.2.2 now adds a missing tevent_req_nterror function to the s3:smbd daemon, refactors s3:smbXsrv's duplicate code into an smbXsrv_session_clear_and_logoff() function, and the dcesrv_alter() function into send and setup steps.

Last but not least, gencache's gencache_stabilize function will no longer fail to work when deletable records are available, vfs_fruit has received an option called "nfs_aces" and designed to control the NFS ACEs stuff, named streams and kernel_flock have been fixed in the VFS component, and a printer name's cache is now purged on name change.
