Gamers will have to deal with overpowered characters

Super Smash Bros. has been selling well on both the 3DS handheld and the Wii U home console in the past month, and those playing it will naturally be waiting for the development team to react to their feedback and deliver at least some changes to the way the various characters work.

But it seems that Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the title and main creative force behind the core mechanics design, does not have any plans to further balance the game and will only try to improve the overall online experience.

The information comes from an interview in the Japanese Famitsu magazine quoted by NeoGAF, in which he clearly states that “We don't have any such plans, but at the very least we will be working on a few things connected to the online play experience, bit by bit. If we were to do something like tweak characters' customized special moves, then there'd be no end to it. But with that said, if there are any glaring issues, we may address them.”

It’s unclear whether the final sentence of that statement means that some major imbalances in Super Smash Bros. will be addressed or if glaring issues refers to online trouble that needs to be quickly fixed.

Sakurai also says that gamers should continue to report any problems they might have with the title in order to give the developers an overview of the state of the fighting game.

One of the issues that prevent Nintendo from delivering balance patches for Super Smash Bros. is the fact that gamers can create their own fighters, mixing moves in different ways, and that naturally introduces situations where one player can be seen as being overpowered.

Super Smash Bros. is great for the Wii U home console

Since Super Smash Bros. was launched on the 3DS, it has managed to deliver some solid sales, but its most important impact is linked to the Wii U home console, which has seen a solid increase in sales in the NPD Group chart for November in the United States.

It will be interesting to see whether the game will maintain its boosting effect in the coming months.

At the moment, most players who picked up Super Smash Bros. are satisfied with the game and its balance, and Nintendo has suggested that it has plans to introduce a range of new characters in the future, although it has not yet offered any names.
