The thid-person shooter offers a mix of crazy, hi-octane action, and demands stylish execution on your part

Insomniac Games' latest installment in the Sunset TV video series offers some insight into Sunset Overdrive's extensive combo system, detailing how it works and why you should care in the first place.

The video is, as usual, hosted by Insomniac Games Community Manager Brandon Winfrey, stating once again the importance of keeping on the move, always jumping and always shooting at stuff.

Combos. How do they work?

The Combo Counter is situated in the upper right hand corner, and the number is increased by chaining traversals such as grinding and wall running together, as well as by getting kills. Multikills can increase the counter further, but standing on the ground for just a few seconds without killing anything can reset it to zero.

Keeping a high Combo Counter is not done solely for bragging rights, but has real gameplay impact. The higher the Combo Counter, the faster the Style Meter rises, and that is what unlocks the special amp abilities, which you're likely to want to use as often as possible.

Now, the higher the value of both meters, the higher your rewards, but keeping those high values up will be no piece of cake. When your Style Meter is at its maximum, it's also going to decrease the fastest, so keeping the bar full will be a real challenge even for experienced players.

Keeping the Combo Counter up will require you to switch traversal modes and keep getting kills, otherwise you risk losing the maximum efficiency mode you worked so hard to achieve.

A lot of the momentum of the core combat experience that the zany third-person shooter offers revolves around you playing stylishly and skillfully, taking out mutants while navigating the city streets with a mix of parkour and skateboarding tricks.

Due to the explosive nature of the action you're enjoying, the game also benefits from some rather explosive language and a lot of gore. The good news is that users who don't particularly enjoy any of those two or who "play with little humans around" will have the option to turn them off and experience a cleaner and friendlier version of Sunset Overdrive.

The game takes place in the future, in a colorful city run by a massive corporation, following a huge concert / energy drink launch gone bad. The crowds turned into mutants after binging on the new energy drink, and it's your job to navigate the vibrant and colorful city streets and clean them up.

Sunset Overdrive is headed exclusively to the Xbox One computer entertainment system from Microsoft, expected out on October 28 in North America and on October 31 in Europe.
