The development team at Insomniac Games and publisher Microsoft are now offering the Mystery of the Mooil Rig downloadable content for all those who own Sunset Overdrive, allowing players to experience an entirely new scenario in the Awesomepocalypse.

The two companies are saying that so far gamers have managed to take out 642 million OD, Scab and Fizzco Bot enemies and the TNTeddy seems to have been one of the most used weapons, responsible for 84 million kills.

2.4 billion traversal combos were generated since launch and that means that players' commitment with the Sunset Overdrive experience is one of the deepest seen on the Xbox One.

The Mystery of the Mooil Rig DLC is offered once the A New Friend mission has been completed, and Insomniac Games states that gamers will be "navigating the deep blue sea to investigate a distress signal emanating from an offshore rig owned by the shadowy Mooil corporation."

The studio claims that gamers will get hours of new core story and side quests to complete, with some new weapons, customization options and amps to collect along the way.

A full Chaos Squad mission and a Night Defense base are also included and gamers who love to explore will be able to employ new water traversal mechanics, which allow them to glide across the water using X before they dive under and then launch into the air like dolphins.

Sunset Overdrive is a success on the Xbox One

Insomniac Games also says that gamers can get into Chaos Squad matches for a chance to be pitted against a developer of the game.

The team adds, "If you beat the dev, you’ll win the 'Beat the Dev' achievement that’s worth 25 Gamerscore, an exclusive in-game shirt and a gas mask icon next to your gamertag. If you beat that player, you’ll also unlock the shirt, achievement and icon. And if you beat the previous winner… well, you get the picture."

Insomniac Games has already said that it plans to offer more content for Sunset Overdrive in 2015 and it seems that Microsoft is satisfied with sales of the game and is already exploring the possibility of making a franchise out of it.

At the moment, the Xbox One home console is behind the rival PlayStation 4 in terms of worldwide sales, but the numbers for November have shown that it has the ability to catch up if the conditions are right.
