Video game developer Insomniac Games and publisher Microsoft are ready to reveal the launch trailer for Sunset Overdrive and are announcing that they are launching a new Week of Explosions set of events in order to celebrate the launch of the new third-person shooter.

The new footage taken from the game is designed to show gamers some of the core features in action and to quickly reveal how the two companies are aiming to re-write the rules of the genre in order to offer a fresh take on an already classical theme.

So far, the promotional efforts for Sunset Overdrive seem fairly traditional, but the Week of Explosions is something else entirely.

The set of events are designed to allow gamers to look at explosions.

Microsoft states on the Xbox Wire that "The Xbox marketing team drank a little too much Overcharge Delirium XT, and are teaming up with Discovery Digital Networks’ SourceFed, SourceFedNERD, RatedRR and The Vloggity to launch Week of Explosions: a series of videos featuring your favorite YouTube stars exploding a variety of real-life objects inspired by Sunset Overdrive, from cans of Overcharge to TNTeddies to a massive Fizzie parade balloon or a full-size Mutant Transportation Vehicle filled with terrifying mutants."

Gamers can also vote what will be blown up last, just before the launch of the game, and the first 100,000 players to offer their opinion will be able to get access to an unique costume to wear, called Granny’s Revenge outfit.

Sunset Overdrive and the quest for sales

Sunset Overdrive is a third-person shooter that focuses on fast speed for the player character and a set of moves that allow him to quickly move across the levels and get into positions from where he can rain destruction down on his mutated enemies.

Insomniac Games is introducing a variety of over-the-top weapons for players to use and the experience will include both cooperative and competitive elements.

Sunset Overdrive will be out only on the Xbox One on October 28 all over the world.

Publisher and platform holder Microsoft believes that the game has the potential to attract a wide audience and can be one of the titles that will boost sales for its platform during the very important Christmas shopping season.

Those who are willing to place a pre-order can get access to a white version of the Xbox One, which until now was only offered to Microsoft employees.
