Gamers get a new story and more missions

Video game developer Insomniac Games and publisher Microsoft announce that they are planning to launch new downloadable content for Sunset Overdrive, called Mooil Rig, on December 23, introducing yet another location for gamers to battle enemies in.

An oil rig is under attack somewhere on the shores of Sunset City and gamers will have to investigate the distress call and find out exactly what the situation is.

The development team says that they are planning to introduce an entirely new community challenge for gamers to tackle, more travel modes, new missions for them to explore, quests and more new unspecified content.

There's also a story to explore, but it seems that, as with the core Sunset Overdrive, it will be far less important than the thrill of combat and exploration.

The announcement states, "This week’s guest host, Larry Hyrb for Xbox Live, unveils the first massive story-based DLC coming to Sunset Overdrive on December 23rd. Get an exclusive look at the story, area, and new traversal mechanics included in the update. Also, get a look at Brandon’s jealousy. It’ll be hard to miss."

Presumably, more details about Mooil Rig for Sunset Overdrive will be offered in the coming two-week period.

Sunset Overdrive is important for the Xbox One and its long-term sales

Sunset Overdrive is one of the Xbox One exclusives that was launched during the fall season, designed to make the console more attractive for hardcore gamers.

Microsoft has supported the game before it was out with a lot of advertising and it seems that it has long-term plans to deliver more content that can keep the community interested as 2015 rolls around.

Insomniac Games has used its expertise with world building and weapon creation to deliver a very entertaining shooter experience and it will be interesting to see how the title can evolve in the coming months.

Sunset Overdrive showcases the power of the Xbox One, but the game does not seem to be a best seller for Microsoft.

The company has been trying to improve sales of its current-gen device, which is at the moment behind the PlayStation 4 from Sony worldwide.

The taken measures have included a cut in the price of the device in North America until January 2 of next year, and anecdotal evidence suggests that the gap is narrowing, although the two companies have not offered clear numbers for a while now.
