Street Fighter V, the next iteration in Capcom's long running fighting series, will feature just 16 characters, with apparently more on the way via updates after launch, according to a new report that also claims that levels will have dynamic time and weather effects.

The Street Fighter series has been around for quite some time and developer Capcom used an interesting strategy with Street Fighter IV, the last major iteration, as it launched the title back in 2009 and then proceeded to re-release it with expanded features, more characters, and new effects over the years.

After the last major debut, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Capcom confirmed a few weeks ago that it was working on Street Fighter V, the next iteration in the series that is set to appear only on the PS4 and PC platforms around the world.

A few details have been revealed by the Japanese company, alongside a gameplay video that teases the return of an old character, and a few screenshots, that confirm that fan-favorites Ryu and Chun-Li are set to appear in the title.

Now, a brand new report has appeared online, via Gamepur, with a few fresh details about the new fighting game.

Only 16 characters are included

First up, it seems that the roster of the game is limited to just 16 fighters, which is one short of the 17 with which Street Fighter IV launched originally. However, it seems that the update procedure planned by Capcom is based on the one employed by Riot Games with League of Legends or Microsoft with Killer Instinct, so you can expect new characters to be added via premium DLC or updates, instead of major re-releases like with Street Fighter IV.

The story mode is expected to be much better this time around, so that those who don't necessarily get Street Fighter V for its multiplayer mode can still enjoy something in the experience. It's still unclear just what events will be covered in the title's plot and where it sits in the pretty convoluted timeline of the franchise overall.

Weather effects and new mechanics are included

What's more, the same report claims that Capcom is adding time and weather effects in the actual stages, so you can expect some interesting changes to make the levels feel more alive and varied. There's also a new mechanic that's supposedly called V-Trigger, which allows players to change their stance, although it's unclear how much of an impact it will have on gameplay.

Last but not least, the PC version is also explained by the report, as it seems that Capcom made this edition in order to cater to the large amount of Street Fighter fans in Latin America, South Asia, or Africa.

Take all these details with a grain of salt, as they haven't been confirmed so far by Capcom.
