Zoink Games, the creator of Stick It to The Man, has announced its next project, a 2D multiplayer brawler titled Zombie Vikings.

The game will be released on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony, on Steam, and on "other epic videogame systems," with an estimated launch window of July 2015.

Zombie Vikings will feature four-player cooperative action, complete with local and online multiplayer, and is setting up to become a worthy alternative to The Behemoth's Castle Crashers.

The game will be the developer's first self-published endeavor, and the studio has teamed up with SteamWorld Dig makers Image & Form, to assist with PR and marketing.

"Our ancestors are probably spinning in their graves as we are turning the stupid-fun dial up to eleven. But we're having so much fun with this. We're putting an enormous amount of work into script, character design and voice acting," said Zoink CEO Klaus Lyngeled regarding the upcoming zany title.

The game will put an insane spin on Norse mythology and is set to offer a satisfying 2D combat experience.

The game's plot revolves around Loki snatching Odin's last magic eye right out of his socket, while everyone else is off partying. Finding himself in a desperate spot, Odin raises four of the most fearsome Zombie Vikings the world has ever seen and sends them on a mission to recover the eye.

Players will be able to take control of Gunborg, Seagurd, Hedgy and Caw-kaa, a putrid posse that has to travel to distant lands in the most epic saga ever created, while at the same time coming to terms with their rotten pasts.

Stick It to The Man was co-penned by Ryan North, author of Adventure Time, and for Zombie Vikings, the tradition to get outside writing help was observed, by bringing in Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal Comics writer Zach Weinersmith.

Weinersmith was excited to be involved in such a crazy project, and stated that both he and Zoink Games were working very hard to create some interesting characters and a quirky, surprising setting.

The studio's first game was very well received, due to its clever mechanics, unique art style, and memorable story. In case you haven't played it, you can read our Stick It to The Man review and find out why you should be excited about Zombie Vikings.

Zoink Games has stated that the co-op brawler's tentative price is set at £8 / €10 / $12, for the time being.
