The more-promising Steve Jobs biopic penned by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Oscar-winner Danny Boyle is set to make its theatrical debut later this year.

ComingSoon even has a solid launch date for the film, and it’s said to compete (conflict?) with other grand openings, like “Vacation,” “The Finest Hours,” and “Kidnap.” Those who read entertainment news may have already guessed what date that is: October 9.

Moved from Sony to Universal Pictures, the movie has had a rough start and is only now shooting its first scenes in California, near Cupertino. Yet the producers are confident that they’ll be able to nail it in due time to be nominated for the 2016 Oscars.

A tumultuous project

After many actors turned down the role, Michael Fassbender was finally cast as Jobs, while Seth Rogen took on the role of Steve Wozniak, the technical whiz who made Apple’s first computers with his bare hands.

Despite being handled by the movie industry’s finest, the biopic’s success is by no means guaranteed. Its advantage over last year’s JOBS movie (starring Ashton Kutcher) lies in the cast crew, but there’s already some buzz around Fassbender not looking the part much, and some would say even Rogen doesn’t do Wozniak justice either.

Jeff Daniels is also in the picture playing John Sculley, the man whom Jobs handpicked to run Apple in a time when the company’s future was looking grim. Sculley ended up firing Jobs from the very company he co-created with Woz. Jobs eventually returned to Apple years later, when Sculley and other visionless executives were no longer in the picture.

A female role believed to be that of Jobs’ daughter Lisa will be played by Kate Winslet. The spot was initially handed to Natalie Portman, but she ultimately refused the part.

Now that we have a solid launch date to look forward to, we invite everyone to take on the comments and let us know if you’re planning to attend the premiere.
