Valve and Bethesda confirm that they've partnered up for a brand new feature in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the Steam Workshop, so that users who make mods for the role-playing game can now charge money for the content they put out.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched quite a few years ago, but thanks to the myriad of mods made by eager fans, it's as popular as ever, especially once the mods were made available via the Steam Workshop. This means that owners of the game could easily download and subscribe to mods for Skyrim.

Premium mods can now be sold via the Steam Workshop

Now, mod makers have the option to sell their creations through the Steam Workshop. According to the official announcement, content creators can choose any price for their mods and users can easily get a refund in case they're not satisfied. There's also a "pay what you want" setting, so content makers can leave it to the latitude of the customer whether or not a price must be paid.

"The Steam Workshop has always been a great place for sharing mods, maps, and all kinds of items that you’ve created. Now it's also a great place for selling those creations. With a new, streamlined process for listing and selling your creations, the Steam Workshop now supports buying mods directly from the Workshop, to be immediately usable in game. Discover the best new mods for your game and enable the creators to continue making new items and experiences," Valve explains.

Skyrim is the first game to support premium mods

The first game to support premium mods on the Steam Workshop is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. According to Valve and Bethesda, over 24,000 mods are available via the Workshop and content creators can now make a profit and continue devoting their efforts to the game.

Valve confirms that, in the near future, more games with Steam Workshop support will get premium mods, although it declines to say if its own major titles, like Dota 2 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, will get them.
