Not all the games are frightening, but their sheer number is

The Steam Halloween sale is now live, doing its best to scare the money out of your wallet, with some incredibly low prices on a huge number of frightening games.

This Steam Halloween Sale is going a bit under the radar, as a good ghost should, eerily creeping into your mind without big front-page displays and assorted games to take part in, like Valve offered for its holiday and summer sales, but the sheer number of titles offered with their prices slashed is staggering.

Although the main theme of the sale is things that are spooky in some way or another, a number of atypical games also managed to sneak in, such as Fallout 3, Road Redemption, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and a handful of others.

Granted, some of the games did get seasonal updates, delivering fresh Halloween-themed content for players to enjoy, consisting mainly of everyone's favorite holiday prop, flaming Jack-O'-Lanterns.

A great opportunity to expand your backlog

You have the opportunity to snag a lot of older titles for incredibly low prices, among the highlights being The Witcher and The Witcher 2, Hotline Miami, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, BioShock 2, BioShock Infinite, and a lot of others.

Among the more thematically appropriate we have The Binding of Isaac, Left 4 Dead 2, Don't Starve, Telltale's gripping adventure titles, The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, Outlast, Amnesia, Dead Space 2, Blackwell Epiphany, the complete Darksiders Franchise Pack, and a slew of other titles featuring preternatural elements.

There are also a lot of low-profile games, so if you're looking at the highlights, finding that you already own all of them, you can always discover some fresh ground to cover, such as the deceptively fun rhythm-based roguelike Crypt of the NecroDancer, The Swapper, The Night of the Rabbit, Overlord: Raising Hell, The Secret World, or Sir, You Are Being Hunted.

If you're looking for classic titles, you can enjoy a veritable blast from the past in the form of the Fallout Classic bundle, I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream, Painkiller: Black Edition, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines, X-COM: Terror From the Deep, Sanitarium or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

The only bad thing about the sale is its user interface, with the limited search functionality making it difficult to sort through all 18 pages of games.

In any case, the Steam Halloween Sale, with its 437 heavily discounted games, should offer you enough to get you going until the upcoming Holiday Sale extravaganza.
