Zanrai Interactive is a relatively new developer that hasn’t yet published any games on Steam. However, that will change by the end of this month when the studio plans to launch its first ever game on Valve’s digital distribution store, Stardust Vanguards.

Graphics-wise, Stardust Vanguards has been built in the retro style, so you’ll be seeing lots of sprites on the display. But that shouldn’t matter too much, as the game focuses more on the multiplayer and action aspects rather than looks.

Stardust Vanguards is a local four-player dueling game “in the style of old-school anime space operas, blending precision high-speed mecha warfare with overwhelming numbers of NPC reinforcements,” claim developers.

The game features cooperative mode for 1 to 4 players with shared lives across three different difficulties and an endurance mode for each. There are also some custom Deathmatch options that will allow players to build their best battle featuring unlimited ammo, swords only, reinforcement variables, pirate event regularity and more.

Kill as many enemies as possible and win lots of RP points to summon reinforcements

During each battle, players will earn and summon more allies to help them in the fight. Thanks to the Stardust Vanguards’ random event system, each battle is different, so expect some surprises during each gameplay session.

With the hard-earned RP points players will be able to summon reinforcements, so the more enemies they kill, the larger the amount of RP points they’ll win.

The random event system has dozens of NPC space pirates scenarios, as well as transport convoys, mercenary squads, fleet blitzkriegs and more.

It’s also worth mentioning that the game features 13 different battlefields and several modes like Deathmatch, Team Battles, Conquest (King of the Hill) and Space Ball (soccer style capture the flag).

Stardust Vanguards will be available on Steam on January 30 for only $9.99 (€9.99). The game is not yet available for pre-order, but it might go on sale closer to release.
