Blizzard is reportedly asking outlets to submit beta key requests, which means that the beta is less than a month ahead

Blizzard has apparently started to ask various outlets to issue requests for keys to the upcoming StarCraft 2: Legacy of the Void beta, which would mean that we'll be seeing it before the end of the month.

The way these things go, the keys are issued and the betas are launched within three weeks of the time the requests are made, usually, which translates into good news for eager fans of Blizzard Entertainment's real-time strategy video game.

The information comes from The Daily Dot, which quotes various sources (mostly eSports outlets) stating that Blizzard is aiming for an end of March or early April release, in order to generate buzz around the release of the expansion.

It's highly likely that Legacy of the Void will be handled just like StarCraft 2's first expansion, Heart of the Swarm, which saw initial access offered to a limited pool of members of the press and professional gamers, and gradually expanding to include more and more players, in order to iron out any hardware-specific kinks.

Blizzard has been pretty busy lately

Legacy of the Void will deliver the long-awaited conclusion to StarCraft 2's storyline, which debuted back in 2010, and will offer gamers the chance to compete online with an even bigger variety of units and potential strategies to use.

The campaign will offer around 20 new missions, focusing on the Protoss race. Players interested in getting access to the beta can do so from their Battle.net accounts, as the developer has opened access to beta opt-ins since November last year.

Blizzard Entertainment has a lot on its plate right now, working on the Heroes of the Storm beta and on a rumored expansion to Hearthstone, its collectible card game. Some are saying that the company is looking to release a new single-player adventure in April, themed around Blackrock Mountain and Molten Core.

In addition to this, the company still has to reveal more information about Overwatch, it's recently unveiled team-based competitive shooter.
