The company has access to a number of props

One of the core aims for the team working on Star Wars Battlefront at DICE is to make the game as close as possible to the original movie trilogy, and the developers are saying that one of the key tools that they are using is called photogrammetry.

A new site update explains that the name denotes a technique that involves taking still images in order to create a high-resolution 3D mesh for either an area or an object, which is very close to its real-world characteristics.

DICE has used the photogrammetry process to deal with very old and very precious props, like the mask that Darth Vader wears, but also to chart the locations that were used in the movies.

Bjorn Arvidsson, the character artist, states that the Lucasfilm Cultural Museum allowed the company to work with lightsabers, droids, the armor used by Boba Fett, and even X-wings.

The developer adds, "The first time I was there, we were so focused on work and was shooting 24/7 so I didn’t really reflect on where I was. But, on the second visit it hit me: where I was, what I was doing...looking at all this amazing stuff, and thinking about how few people actually have the opportunity to go there, I was in awe."

The process was even more complex for locations and DICE believes that new tech is very important for the authenticity of the experience offered by Star Wars Battlefront.

The game will include DLC based on The Force Awakens

At the moment, Star Wars Battlefront is set to be launched on the PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 on November 17.

DICE and Electronic Arts have made it clear that they are focusing on the original movie trilogy, aiming to replicate the battles shown in those films or mentioned by various characters.

The only content linked to the new The Force Awakens movie is a special and free downloadable content pack called Battle of Jakku.

It will be launched on December 1 for all those who place a pre-order for Star Wars Battlefront and one week later for the rest of the community.

The development team has not offered any details on the exact line-up of heroes or of maps and game modes that will be part of the coming shooter.
