After presenting to the world Star Wars Battlefront last week, DICE starts sharing more and more details about the new shooter, this time confirming that it won't feature excessive destruction, like its main Battlefield titles, and that it's not a reskin of those military games.

Star Wars Battlefront is a reboot of the old franchise made by Pandemic back in the 2000s, delivering a sci-fi shooter experience that, as we saw thanks to a stellar trailer last week, is looking quite impressive.

Battlefront won't emphasize destruction

The shooter already got plenty of gameplay details from developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts, and now some more information is available concerning certain aspects like environmental destruction.

First up, DICE General Manager Patrick Bach confirms to Engadget that Battlefront certainly takes into consideration the general theme of the Star Wars franchise as a whole. As such, certain elements, like environmental destruction that was a core feature for the studio's Battlefield games, won't be that present in the upcoming title.

Battlefront isn't Battlefield, DICE says

What's more, DICE Producer Jesper Nielsen mentions on Reddit that there was never an intention at the studio to copy the work already done with Battlefield 4, for example, and just add a Star Wars skin on top. The intention was to create a great title powered by the studio's Frostbite 3 technology.

"Oh, trust me, this is not a Battlefield re-skin," he says. "It's using the Frostbite engine, yes, but not a lot of the Battlefield code. Day 1 was not 'hey, let's copy Battlefield 4 and work from that.' It was more like 'hey, let's make a new Frostbite game.'"

As such, shooter fans should expect a truly novel experience when Star Wars Battlefront debuts in November on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. Until then, you can bet that more videos, screenshots, and details will be shared by DICE and EA.
