Fans are questioned about their favorite mechanics

The development team at Harmonix has surprised a lot of gamers by announcing that it was launching new downloadable content for its classic Rock Band title, and now the company is once again fuelling rumors about the future of the series by delivering a new survey and asking all fans to fill it out so that the studio can get access to a clear picture about the make-up of the community.

The survey is accessible to all those interested in delivering the answers and is focused on the past rather than on the future, asking gamers to say what is their favorite title from the past of the series.

They are also required to offer some details about where they live and the Rock Band games they have bought over the years.

However, the final page of the survey also talks about a new title in the series and the platforms on which gamers would like to play it.

Harmonix has not said what it plans to do with the data that it is collecting or whether there are any more questions for the community coming in the future.

At first glance, the questions seem to suggest that the company is simply exploring the possibility of adding more DLC to the franchise on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and wants to know which are the games players will buy more content for.

But the final page is also a sign that Harmonix does want to create an entirely new Rock Band experience, which might integrate some of the classic ideas while also bringing in new mechanics.

Rock Band and Guitar Hero can impress on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4

Both Rock Band from Harmonix and the rival Guitar Hero series were once huge hits on the last generation of consoles.

The music game genre entered a decline because of market saturation and because of a lack of innovation.

The launch and the success of the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 means that a solid install base exists and that there’s a generation of gamers which might be interested in a new take on the classic Rock Band concept.

An official announcement will probably not be made during 2015.
