14 DAY TRIAL // The development team at Harmonix has just sprung a massive surprise on its loyal fan base by announcing that, after a 21-month-long hiatus, it is resuming the delivery of downloadable content for its major hit Rock Band.
The official announcement reveals that on January 13 gamers will be able to get access to three new tracks on both the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the Xbox 360.
The track list includes: Arctic Monkeys with "R U Mine?," Avenged Sevenfold playing "Shepherd Of Fire," and Foo Fighters with "Something From Nothing."
All the included tracks will sell for 1.99 dollars or 1.49 Euro.
Only those who play on the PS3 on Europe will have to wait until January 21 for the same content.
Harmonix claims that the star of the new DLC is "R U Mine," which "marks the first appearance of the Grammy Award winning Arctic Monkeys on the Rock Band platform. From 2013’s critically acclaimed album AM, R U Mine? - with its driving riffs, syncopated rock beats, and memorable hook - is perfect for Artic Monkeys’ Rock Band debut."
The development team is not saying why it chose this moment to deliver more DLC for Rock Band, a title that plenty of gamers believed was no longer actively supported.
It's also unclear whether more content for it will be introduced in the coming weeks or months.
Music games need to move to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4
Since the current generation of hardware from Sony and Microsoft was launched, plenty of fans have asked for Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the two most important music-based franchises in the world of games, to be revived.
The genre was very popular at one point and generated huge revenue through DLC drops but interest has declined once players filled their libraries and started ignoring new releases.
The fact that Harmonix is launching DLC for Rock Band at this moment might be a sign that it is at least contemplating moving the series to the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
It's also possible that an entirely new music game concept is prepared for the new platforms but the team is not yet willing to disclose any official info.
