Rock Band 4, the next iteration in the long-running rhythm game series made by Harmonix, is going to run at a full HD 1080p resolution and a 60fps framerate on the PS4 and Xbox One consoles, but the studio is more excited about the online capabilities of the new devices rather than about their power.

Rock Band games delivered some very impressive experiences many years ago across the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms, but once the slump in popularity for rhythm games started, Harmonix was forced to work on other, more profitable projects.

However, longtime fans were ecstatic to hear earlier this month that a new Rock Band 4 experience is coming to the PS4 and Xbox One, which includes major features such as support for all the DLC that was released by Harmonix for previous games in the series.

The game will also perform quite well on the new devices

Now, while talking with MCV, via Videogamer, Harmonix Product Manager Eric Pope confirms that the new title is powered by a fresh engine that makes the most out of the PS4 and Xbox One, and that it will look and run very well on the new home devices from Sony and Microsoft.

However, Pope is most excited about the online capabilities of the two consoles, which should enable an even better post-launch support for the game after it reaches the PS4 and Xbox One this fall.

"It's going to look 'next-gen' with more realistic lighting, character models, and animation. It'll be 1080p and will run at 60fps. I know there's a vocal group of players that want to hear that. But what to me is more exciting is the online infrastructure of the consoles. It will open a lot [of] opportunities for us to support the game in more reactive, timely ways," he says.

Besides talking about the game's performance, Pope also offers a more specific October release period for Rock Band 4, but declines to say anything else about exactly when the game will debut on PS4 and Xbox One.
