The judges who get to decide who is worthy to eat for free at this establishment are local plastic surgeons

It's often said that the best things in life are free. This may or may not be true, but what is beyond any doubt is that, as long as you are drop-dead gorgeous, you will always and forever have a free meal waiting for you at the Jeju Island restaurant in China.

That's right, this establishment is ready and willing to serve some of its customers without asking for any money in return, but only if they are good-looking. “Free meal for the good-looking,” reads a sign that until a few days back hanged just outside the restaurant.

It is understood that this sign was taken down following a protest, but the restaurants owners maintain that they have no intention whatsoever to change their policy. On the contrary, they are more determined than ever to go on offering free meals to good-looking customers.

“We will be more prudent with our advertising in future, but the promotion will continue despite the demolition of our sign,” restaurant manager Xue Hexin said in an interview, as cited by Oddity Central. Not at all surprisingly, this odd promotion that will continue unhindered is dubbed “Pay by Face.”

A panel of judges decides who eats for free

To prove that this promotion is no joke, restaurant managed Xue Hexin even hired a panel of judges whose only job is to check out people who want to eat at Jeju Island without paying and decide who is worthy of the honor. These judges are all local plastic surgeons.

Before selecting the five best-looking customers who will get to enjoy a meal free of charge, the plastic surgeons look at the overall shape of their face, their eyes, their nose and their mouth. Apparently, they pay especially close attention to the contestant's forehead.

Most likely to make sure that nobody would even have reasons to complain about having been poorly assessed by the judges, the scoring standards that the plastic surgeons rely on when making their final decision are publicly displayed.

In case anyone was wondering, normal-looking guys and gals pay for their meals just what their menus say. Then again, a user of the Chinese social networking site Weibo could not help but wonder what happens to those who are a wee challenged in the beauty department. “Do the ugly have to pay twice?” he wrote.
