Capcom confirms that it was a design decision that kept the framerate of Resident Evil HD on the PS4 and Xbox One at 30fps, while the PC version can reach 60fps, so console owners shouldn't worry about getting an inferior product.

Resident Evil HD is launching nowadays around the world across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, or Xbox One platforms, delivering a remastered version of the iconic survival horror title released by Capcom many years ago.

Consoles can play Resident Evil HD at just 30fps, as opposed to PC

Fans can expect remastered textures, improved controls, and a variety of improvements, but the framerate on consoles remains at just 30fps. As you can imagine, this has led to some controversy, especially since the PC edition of the high definition remake can reach 60fps, depending on your configuration.

Some fans have started asking questions on the Capcom-Unity community website and now a representative of the Japanese publisher confirms that it's not a technical problem that prevents them from enjoying Resident Evil HD at 60fps on powerful devices like PS4 or Xbox One.

Instead, it was an active design decision from Capcom's team to keep the action at 30fps, as it was when the original game came out many, many years ago.

He also highlights that there's a technical option to allow for 60fps but it isn't a guarantee that all PC owners can enjoy the remastered game at the improved framerate.

"30fps is the intended way to experience the game, and 30fps was maintained as the optimized gameplay experience across all consoles. In the case of PCs, this depends on your system capabilities and there is no guarantee of 60fps - it's just technically possible and the option is there," he explains.

As such, while it's clear that Resident Evil HD could have run at 60fps on the more powerful consoles, Capcom's design decision prevents that on those devices, while enabling it on the PC.
