Resogun, the extremely addictive arcade shooter launched by Housemarque for the PS4 last year, is finally reaching new platforms, as the studio has worked alongside Climax to bring the title to the PS3 and PS Vita this month.

Resogun launched alongside the PS4 back in November of last year, and while there were quite a few impressive titles available for the platform, the small arcade game won over the hearts and minds of PS4 owners everywhere with its stellar voxel-based visuals, not to mention the addictive gameplay.

Resogun is coming to PS3 and PS Vita

Now, after quite some time, Sony confirms on its PS blog that Resogun is going to appear for the PS3 and PS Vita later this month.

Starting on December 17 in Europe and December 23 in North America, Resogun will also delight owners of the PS3 or PS Vita platforms. What's more, those who already have it on the PS4 will get it for free on the other consoles via the Cross-Buy system.

"Picking a game that was created specifically for the PS4 and bringing it to PS Vita and PS3 is very difficult, and the hardest compromise to accept during development, especially in regard to performance and graphics, is that these platforms don’t have the capability and power of a PS4," Sony explains on the PS blog.

The game makes some sacrifices, however

While the game retains all the gameplay features seen in the PS4 version, it does make one big sacrifice on the PS3 and PS Vita, as it no longer boasts a 60fps framerate. Instead, it has a locked framerate of 30fps that allows it to have the best visuals possible on the two devices.

"The biggest technical difference is that the PS Vita and PS3 games run at 30 instead of 60 frames per second. This was a very difficult decision to consider, but a very necessary one to allow the team to focus on what was possible and to make the best game possible for both of these platforms. The framerate is locked, so you can expect solid performance even under a big storm of voxels," Sony confirms.

The games also benefit from cross-save functionality between the PS3 and PS Vita versions, while the handheld one also supports the ad-hoc co-op feature, meaning you can team up with another friend who has a PS Vita and play together.
