Resogun Defenders is coming to the PlayStation 4 soon, delivering a ton of new content for fans of shooting stuff and rolling around in a spaceship, on the outside of a cylinder.

Resogun was one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4 home console, a voxel-based side-scrolling shoot'em up video game, inspired by developer Housemarque's previous hits, Super Stardust HD and Super Stardust Delta.

Publisher Xdev Studio has detailed some of the features of the expansion in a post on the PlayStation Blog, showing gamers what's coming their way next week.

The expansion brings a ton of new things to the table and is meant to be the final piece of content for Resogun, making the entire experience complete.

The action takes place during humanity's last stand against the overwhelming Sentient forces. Players will have to fight against the bad guys on an unknown planet, in two all-new game modes, Protector and Commando.

There will be a number of new power-ups to help you in your plight, including Super Boost, Teleport, and automatic city defenses, helping you take down the enemy and save the last human survivors, taking them back to each city in order to extend your control over the planet.

New game modes

The Protector mode features a new mechanic that flips the planet, and plenty of environmental hazards, including volcanic meteors, to avoid while fighting the never-ending stream of assailants.

The Commando mode puts you in the shoes of the last human being, left behind and stranded on a distant planet, armed with only a minigun to defend yourself against the Sentient onslaught, in the ultimate arcade revenge mode.

You will be able to jump and boost as you defend your final home from waves upon waves of enemies and volcanic enemies, and discover some new exciting mechanics along the way.

The Commando mode is enabled with both cooperative and competitive multiplayer options, allowing you to team up with a friend against the odds, or to destroy a frenemy's base from under their nose.

Resogun Defenders will be available exclusively on the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system from Sony, starting February 17, with a price tag of $5 / €5, or free of charge for all existing season pass owners.
