Expect plenty of intense situations and counter-terrorism

Ubisoft confirms that Rainbow Six: Siege, the next game in the tactical shooter series, is different from the previous Vegas entries in the series, although it quickly points out that it's going to feature the core principles of the franchise, such as counter-terrorism and hostage rescue.

The Rainbow Six series has been around for quite some time, as it was one of Ubisoft's first big collaborations with novel writer Tom Clancy. Since then, some noteworthy entries have appeared, such as the Vegas 1 and Vegas 2 ones, but not much else has been heard, except a halfhearted confirmation of Rainbow Six: Patriots.

Back at E3 2014 last summer, Ubisoft presented a new entry called Rainbow Six: Siege that emphasizes multiplayer action over a single-player campaign.

Siege doesn't have anything to do with the Vegas entries

Now, Ubisoft Montreal Game Designer Andrew Witts tells IGN that Siege is more like a different branch of the Rainbow team, as Ubisoft doesn't want to make players feel like they have to had played Vegas 1 or 2 to enjoy it.

"I can’t dive too deep into the setting of the game yet," Witts tells. "But what I can say is that Siege is its own branch from the previously established Rainbow lore. We want players to feel invited to play inside the Rainbow Six universe without the previous games being mandatory for entry."

The new title will respect the principles of the series

However, this doesn't mean that Siege is abandoning everything Rainbow Six stood for, as apparently, core principles have been identified by the team and will be respected with the upcoming title.

Among such tenets are the fight against terrorists, teamwork and hostage rescue, so expect all these elements to be present in Siege.

"At the end of the day, the Rainbow Six fantasy about being part of the greatest counter-terrorist organization and impersonating the best of the best operators, working as a team, [and] carrying out dangerous operations (hostage rescue) anywhere on the globe," he adds.

As such, players of Rainbow Six: Siege should expect plenty of impressive hostage rescues and terrorist fights when the title eventually launches in the future across PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
