Runemaster is an ambitious project that aims to mix classic role-playing mechanics, turn-based battles and Nordic mythology, and the world of Alfheim is one of the most beautiful locations that gamers will be able to visit as they seek to either bring on or avoid the coming end of the world, depending on their allegiance to Loki or to Thor.

In an official forum post, the developers say that the name of the plane can be translated as “home of the Lightelfs” and explain what the main population is, even if there are also locations where the Trolls are present.

Paradox Development Studios states, “The Lightelfs do not like metal and use bone for many of their weapons. They fight mostly with daggers, spears, bow and arrow and occasionally swords. They are usually dressed lightly with leather armor, feathers, twigs, or moss which gives the Lightelfs a natural camouflage.”

Alfheim is a warm world with high fertility, and that means music and dancing can be practiced by the inhabitants as food is easy to obtain from the nature around them.

Lightelfs are able to bend trees to their will in order to create dwellings, and understandably, fire is not allowed anywhere near them.

The development team is also offering a complete story about the way Alfheim was initially created and how the race populating it has come to call it home.

Runemaster will offer diversity and interesting challenges

The world of Alfheim is also filled with medicinal plants and ingredients for powerful potions.

Paradox adds, “The days in Alfheim are long, and little work is needed to provide for everyone. The Lightelfs have plenty of time to spend on their pleasures, which includes wood carving, vegetable carving, composing, singing, telling stories and writing or reading books.”

Depending on the character of the locations they are visiting and their hero choices, gamers will get different quests in Runemaster, which can be solved either by carefully exploring the environments or by fighting enemy forces.

The game aims to take core elements of Nordic myths and present them in a new light, with a lot of options when it comes to how each race interacts with the universe.

Paradox says that it wants the game to be challenging from a tactical standpoint, while also creating an immersive experience.

Runemaster is expected to be launched on both the PC and the PlayStation 4 from Sony in 2015.
