Tests show it does not have a higher than normal temp

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset was so close to fail even before being released due to some overheating issues that were reported by companies like Samsung.

Although these issues have been reportedly fixed by Qualcomm, the initial testing was enough for Samsung to drop the Snapdragon 810 in favor of its proprietary Exynos solution.

There may be other companies that decided to avoid the Snapdragon 810 chipset for fear of it being a faulty product. Even if rumors claims these overheating issues have been fixed, there were no actual benchmarks made that would confirm it.

In order to make things more transparent and show smartphone manufacturers Snapdragon 810 does not have any issues, Qualcomm has invited a select number of journos to its headquarters to see with their own eyes how their new chipset performs in benchmarks.

However, no actual tests of the temperature have been made at that time, which left everyone with the same question on their lips. Luckily, the folks over at STJS Gadgets Portal have been able to test Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 and considering the results it’s clear that overheating issues have been addressed.

Two benchmarks have been run on Snapdragon 801 and Snapdragon 810 processors under the same conditions to give us a better idea of how hot these CPUs can become when running games for a longer period of time.

Snapdragon 810 has lower power consumption, better performance and is cooler

According to Qualcomm’s standards, processors tend to reach 35-45 degrees Celsius in the most demanding scenarios, and about 30-35 when devices are used for simple tasks.

It’s also worth mentioning that most phones have their CPUs temperature limit set to 45 degrees Celsius, so when they hit that limit they are throttle down hence the lower performances during a gameplay session.

The first benchmark was done on a pre-release device powered by Snapdragon 810 CPU, which ran Gameloft’s Asphalt 8 for about 30 minutes. The other device tested was a commercial smartphone equipped with Snapdragon 801 processor.

As you can notice from the charts, the Snapdragon 801 chipset hit the limit temperature after about 20 minutes into the game, while the Snapdragon 810 still had some room until it would hit 45 degrees Celsius even after 30 minutes of gameplay.

The second benchmark was made while capturing a 4K video and shows, once again, that Snapdragon 810 is way cooler than the Snapdragon 801 chipset.

The Snapdragon 801 processor reached 45 degrees Celsius after 5 minutes of recording, while Snapdragon 810 was way below the threshold after the same period.

If you were worried about Snapdragon 810’s performance and overheating issues, then here is another proof that they have been fixed and that Qualcomm’s chipset is even better than the previous models.
