Q4OS is a Linux operating system that implements a desktop environment that is very similar with the older Windows versions. The developer have just released a new update and they are now much closer to a much stable release.

The Q4OS have been working for a long time on this distro and they have made numerous updates to it, but they haven't managed to turn a new leaf with a 1.0 release. This version has been eluding them, but they are getting closer. The launch date for Q4OS 1.0 should be sometime in April or May and that is actually very close.

Many of the Linux users don't like the Windows design or anything Microsoft related for that matter. Most doesn't mean all and there are quite a few people that enjoy recreating the Windows experience on a Linux system. This can be done very easily with themes and icons, or on a much deeper level with a modified desktop environment.

Q4OS 1.0 is very close

The rate of updates for Q4OS has been increasing in the past few months and some of them have been pretty important. The Desktop Profiler tool has been getting a lot of attention, but it's easy to understand why. It's one of the key apps in the distro and it allows users to change the look and functionality of the desktop on the fly.

"Preserving current 0.5 line, the new Q4OS version applies security patches and solves several minor issues. Desktop Profiler application has been slightly tweaked as well. Most attention is now focused on the development of the new stable LTS 1.0 version, it will be supported for at least 5 years. The release date is preliminarily set at about the turn of April and May," reads official announcement.

You can download Q4OS 0.5.29 right now from Softpedia and you can find more details about this new version of the operating system in the official announcement. Please keep in mind that there is no Live version of this OS and you will need to install it in order to test it.
