Instapaper may be the most elegant choice for reading later on iOS, but Pocket has some cool tricks too. This was the first app of its kind to be free on iPhone and iPad, and they are still the only ones that feature an app for your Mac.

Pocket is used by over 12 million people and they have some good reasons to take advantage of it: the app is free, it has great functionality and it has just learned new tricks with the arrival of iOS 8. The developer made sure to include a new Save to Pocket extension.

This feature is system-wide and all you have to do when you visit a webpage in Safari is click the square icon with an arrow sticking out of the top and press the Pocket icon. You will see that article in your queue next time you open the app.

The best thing about Pocket will come when OS X Yosemite shows up on your Mac. The developers have included Handoff capabilities for their app on iOS and desktop, so you will be able to continue reading an article where you left off on an iPad or Mac.

Pocket has a premium package as well. For $4.99 (€3.87) a month and $44.99 (€34.93) per year you can get a permanent library for everything you save, full text search and suggested tags.
