The team in charge of the PlayStation brand is announcing that it is celebrating the biggest video games that were launched in 2014 and recognized with Game of the Year awards with a new major sale, which is set to introduce discounts for a wide range of titles.

At the same time, users of the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and the Vita can also take advantage of a new Oscar sale for movies and they can also get money back when they spend certain amounts on the official Store.

The announcement states, "Get a $15 credit when you spend more than $100 using your SEN Wallet on PS Store today through February 24th at 11:59 PM Pacific. You’ll receive a redemption code for your $15 credit on or before March 2nd via email, XMB message on PS3, or system notification on PS4/PS Vita. The redemption code must be redeemed by 11:59 PM Pacific on March 31."

The PlayStation Critic's and Oscar sales will run until February 23.

Some of the highlights of the video games that go on sale are: Batman: Arkham City, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Child of Light, Dark Souls 2, Destiny, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls – Ultimate Evil Edition, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, FIFA 15, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Wolfenstein: The New Order.

The offered movies are also high-profile and include: 12 Years a Slave, American Hustle, Argo, Avatar, Dallas Buyers Club, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, District 9, Gone Girl, Hurt Locker, Inception, Slumdog Millionaire, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Social Network, Traffic, and Zero Dark Thirty.

Regular sales are expected by the player community

The major sale on the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and the Vita is coming less than two months after a big one linked to Christmas, and since then a smaller number of titles have also been discounted.

The fact that Sony is offering a lot of video games and movies for lower prices will boost the profile of its hardware platforms and will make them more attractive to customers, but can also create a problem in the long-term.

After seeing the big number of sales, some users might decide to delay picking up new content until it becomes heavily discounted, which is a problem for the future of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.
