The NPD Group, which is tracking video game sales on a monthly basis in the United States, is announcing that the PlayStation 4 home console has once again managed to sell better than the Xbox One, although the 3DS is the best-selling piece of hardware on the market.

At the same time, the company is saying that The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D has managed to be the leader in terms of software for the tracked period, as its overall sales have gone beyond the 500,000 mark.

Nintendo says that the 3DS has managed to sell 395,000 units in February, with most of them linked to the New version of the handheld.

The company is also saying that it has seen a solid 20 percent increase in the figures of the Wii U, which should continue to get a boost from coming software releases.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have offered information on how many devices they have managed to sell during the same period, according to a NeoGAF thread.

The PlayStation 4 remains the overall leader in terms of sales both in the United States and worldwide, although Microsoft is still saying that the Xbox One has managed to also perform better than it expected.

Overall, the gaming industry has managed to increase the overall value of its sales by 8 percent over the same period of last year.

The NPD Group analyst Liam Callahan states, "Home console hardware declined 5 percent as gains in eighth-generation console sales could not offset the 41 percent loss in dollar sales of seventh generation hardware."

Evolve takes second place in the software chart

The surprise victory of the new Majora's Mark 3D means that other big titles that were introduced during the same month had to settle for second and third place.

Evolve, the asymmetrical shooter from Turtle Rock, performed well and managed to come out ahead of Dying Light from Techland.

The rest of the top ten includes: Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K15, Dragon Ball: Xenoverse, Minecraft, The Order: 1886 and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.

The NPD Group only tracks physical sales at the moment, although it does have plans to implement a system for titles delivered to gamers digitally.

Overall, video game sales have dropped a little when compared to February 2014.
