14 DAY TRIAL // Sony Online Entertainment confirms that the PlanetSide 2 closed beta stage might open up in the future as the main goal is to get in as many console owners as possible to try out the free-to-play online shooter ahead of its actual debut on the device.
PlanetSide 2 has a lot of active players on the PC platform, as Sony Online Entertainment managed to deliver a great multiplayer shooter experience that combines epic brawls with smaller matches that can attract different people.
The PlanetSide 2 beta might open up to all in the future
This week saw the debut of the closed beta for PlanetSide 2 on PS4 in North America, and despite a few disappointments with the framerate, quite a few people are now invited into the test phase.
While talking with GameZone about the future plans for the beta, Sony Online Entertainment's Executive Producer Clint Worley confirms that more people will be invited into the test stage, and eventually, it might go fully open for all PS4 owners to try out.
"We've had a huge response. It's nice to see the support that's there," Worley says about the closed beta. "That's why towards the end of our beta, we really want to open it as broad as we can. Ideally we'd move to something more akin to an open beta. We just need to make sure we have the ability to interact with our players."
The beta is about feedback
Worley emphasizes that the beta is more about interacting with players and gathering feedback, rather than promoting the title. One main aspect that's under scrutiny is the console interface, which was overhauled in order to cater to the controller, instead of the keyboard or mouse like on the PC.
"One of the things we're really trying to focus on is, PlanetSide 2 has been known for a while now as a PC game, and one of the biggest feedback we get from the players is we love the moment to moment gameplay, but one thing we're not sure how you're going to handle is the interface on the console."
As such, those who are able to test out PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 are asked to share their feedback, while those who haven't received their invitation should keep on waiting.
