As promised, Sony announced today when exactly PlayStation 4 owners would be able to play PlanetSide 2 in the highly-anticipated closed beta. The good news is PlanetSide 2 closed beta will drop on PlayStation 4 this month, but the bad news is we will still have to wait until January 20.

In order to enjoy the closed beta, PlayStation 4 owners will have to sign up through the game's official website. According to Sony, players will be invited in the chronological order in which they signed up.

The closed beta period will be used by Sony to stress test its servers, as well as make sure the game's performance and its other aspects are within the required parameters.

For those who never played the first PlanetSide game, Sony confirmed that all players in the closed beta would be given access to special Beta forums where they will be able to interact directly with developers and leave their (hopefully) constructive feedback.

Only a few thousand players will be invited into the closed beta initially

If you've been dying to enter the frail on planet Auraxis, then you should know that Sony plans to initially invite only a few thousand players into this closed beta. However, waves of players will be added after the first days of closed beta.

Sony also announced that the beta client for PlanetSide 2 will be available for download on PlayStation 4 on the same day the closed beta will kick off, January 20.

Those who get invited into the closed beta of PlanetSide 2 may want to know that during the first week there will be limited server availability. However, as developers move closer toward launch, players should expect 24/7 availability. More details on server downtimes will be announced in advance.

Currently, PlanetSide 2 is localized in English in North America, UK, AU and NZ territories, but more countries and languages may be added until launch. That's about all you need to know before getting into PlanetSide 2 closed beta, so good luck being selected.
