"Pixels" is an upcoming movie about video games, coming from known actor Adam Sandler, and it has just gotten a fresh trailer.

Whether Adam Sandler is a comedian or not is still up for debate, hence the cringeworthy content of the trailer below, but since it features some of the most popular video game characters ever made, it deserves a nod.

The movie's official trailer has some gaming-related things in it, but the way in which they are portrayed will most likely be met with a lukewarm response from people expecting a comedy or from those hoping for a proper video games movie.

Everyone else will likely have a blast though, and since taste and humor are highly subjective, Adam Sandler is bound to draw some crowds to theaters when the movie launches.

The film's premise is pretty simple: aliens mistake classic arcade video game feeds for a declaration of war, and they attack our planet.

Of course, they come as video game characters, and it's up to Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, Ashley Benson and Brian Cox to stop them.

There are some big names in the cast, but that's usually not enough to save a cheesy movie, and unfortunately, video game-based films already have a pretty sketchy reputation as is.

"Pixels" is likely not going to be as good as "Wreck-It Ralph"

The project is directed by Chris Columbus, known for the first two "Home Alone" movies, "Mrs. Doubtfire," "Bicentennial Man," "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

Sony Pictures has struck licensing deals with many game companies, in order to feature characters and settings from popular arcade titles such as Asteroids, Breakout, Missile Command, Frogger, Pac-Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders, Robotron, and many others.

Judging from the trailer, "Pixels" is likely to bring together all the video game tropes on TVTropes and bundle them with the cheesiest one-liners and most predictable physical jokes that the Sandler team has already done in "Grown Ups," "Grown Ups 2," "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" and all the others.

"Pixels" is expected out sometime this summer.
