Network puts its foot in it during red carpet coverage

Seeing how it was E! who basically “invented” the red carpet tradition, it’s very embarrassing for them not to be able to identify 2 of the biggest stars in showbiz right now, respectively Jamie Foxx and Nicki Minaj.

Yet this is precisely what happened last night, at the American Music Awards 2014, held live at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, as the 2 screencaps in the gallery, courtesy of BuzzFeed, can confirm.

When Ne-Yo arrived on the scene, E! identified him as Jamie Foxx, one of the presenters of the night. It’s true that he was in attendance, but Foxx didn’t walk the red carpet, probably because he’d brought his young daughter along and the ruckus and the blinding lights would have been too upsetting for her.

Then, as if that weren’t bad enough, they identified Dencia as rapper Nicki Minaj. Apparently, Dencia is a pop singer but she’s most (in)famous for endorsing a product called Whitenicious lightening cream, which, indeed, as its name implies, whitens the skin.

This isn’t the first time she was mistaken for Nicki, mostly because they both dress in crazy, mismatched colors and favor more eccentric hairstyles.

Again, this is E! we’re talking about, a network that started this trend of watching red carpet arrivals with its Fashion Police segment and the countless reporters it has on the scene, asking famous people (and especially women) who they are wearing and what they did to prepare for the big night.

Last night, they messed up big time, because it happened twice, with such famous public figures like Foxx and Minaj.
