The reason is he can't play the drums anymore

People are going about many rock bands and their reunions these days. Almost all of the greatest bands from the ‘80s and ‘90s have reunited either briefly or for prolonged periods, and have either toured or even come up with new material. Phil Collins has recently been asked if there aren't any plans for such a reunion for his band.

The singer has confessed that, at the moment, there aren't any such plans to bring back the rock band he activated in, Genesis. The reason for that is that he could never take up his original position with the band, that of drummer.

A medical condition has rendered the singer unable to play the drums, since he now has nerve damage in his elbows, which means that he can't grip the drum sticks firmly anymore.

In an interview with Uncut Magazine, the singer revealed that “There's this incessant desire for it to happen. But I often think, ‘Have people thought it through?’ It's not as if you're going to get Peter as singer, me as drummer. I can't play any more, so it's never going to happen. But even if it could, you're not going to get Peter singing ‘I Can't Dance’ or ‘Invisible Touch’ or ‘Mama.’”

Collins is, of course, referring to the songs the band composed after Peter left the band in 1975, and which have all become hits associated with Genesis in the meantime.
