The operating system is plagued by stability issues

Pearl Linux MATE is a new Linux distro that aims to provide an experience similar to that of Mac OS X. It's based on Ubuntu MATE and it's not really good. In fact, it might be a good example of how not to make an OS.

Building an operating system is not a difficult task, if you put your mind to it. You don't even have to know how to code and many operations have been automated.

This is why there is an abundance of new operating systems out there that don't usually amount to anything. It's also worth pointing out that the system is based on Ubuntu MATE, which is a relatively new Ubuntu flavor.

Pearl Linux MATE is not the first operating system that wants to emulate the Mac OS X experience and there have been a number of very successful ones. Pear Linux was the best, but the OS disappeared a year ago and none of the subsequent tries has been any good.

Pearl Linux MATE 1.0 sounds like a stable experience, but it's not

One of the features that can guide a user towards the adoption of a new operating system is the ability to try the Live CD. Pearl Linux MATE technically supports this feature, but it's implemented very poorly and it doesn't really work. Only if you're lucky and have the proper hardware, maybe you'll get it to work.

"A complete Linux operating system designed for the Linux Newbee, windows users that are not aware of the Linux alternatives to apple user looking to make the change over to Linux but wants a similar look and feel of OSX as appose to the average linux distro with there own environment. It's not a Mac and does not run mac software, nor is it a pear remake at all."

"Features include by default compiz window manager with working magic lamp minimizing effects as well as wobbly windows etc. Pearl was designed to have the look of OSX as opposed to look of Ubuntu's Unity and Windows 7 etc. Why Pearl? simply put it has the software to handle well beyond just basic needs it covers a wide range of great software which ready to run for even newbies," reads the official announcement.

Most of the problems we had with the system had to do with stability, but that can be caused by a number of other things, like hardware for example.

Also, Ubuntu MATE doesn't have proper Compiz support and that might be another cause for the constant crashes. In any case, the design of the distro is not bad and you might be able to appreciate it. You can download Pearl Linux MATE 1.0 from Softpedia.
