Likely fixable through a small software update

Numerous Mac users who recently made the jump to OS X 10.10 are reporting blurry menu bars and fonts on their systems. The culprit is unknown at this time, but the issue is probably easily remedied through a simple software update.

Apple is currently silent on this particular topic. The same can be said about another issue involving Yosemite computers and bad Wi-Fi connectivity. As far as the former is concerned, there are far fewer complaints because it doesn’t affect usage quite as much. However, the number of users reporting blurry graphics isn’t negligible either.

The problem, as reported by users

As usual, customers are venting their anger on the Apple Support Communities forum, where they describe the problem in their own words. The reports are similar in nature, making it clear what the issue is.

One customer identified as Philippe Mion says, “So i've upgraded to yosemite. Overall i like it, simplified and more like iOS. However the first thing that hit me is how blurry all the text is everywhere! It's pretty awful, i'm sure it wasn't that bad with mavericks. The menu bar at the top of the screen is worse of all, i really don't understand what is going on here. It's bad and i hope it will be addressed in an update.”

Philippe provides a screenshot to show the rest of the class what he’s talking about. Replying to his OP, a user identified as appleuserinchicago chimes in to say, “I agree completely.  The new font is blurry and a huge disappointment.  I loved my iMac because it was a delight to read text and now it's blurry and the smaller fonts are hard to read.”

Dozens of similar replies ensued, and there are several threads on the topic available on the web (not just on Apple Support Communities).

Evident since the betas

We can confirm the issue as present on our Macs here at Softpedia as well. The screenshots speak for themselves (available below, click to enlarge). We’ve also noticed this strange behavior since the betas, but we had faith that Apple would address the issue in the public version of Yosemite.

So far, we’ve experienced it only a few times. The issue is intermittent in nature and will only be exhibited in particular circumstances. We can’t determine which circumstances are causing the blur issue to arise at this point.

Apple will most likely take note of the problem, if it hasn’t done so already, and will address it with a software patch.
