Parted Magic, an operating system that employs core programs of GParted and Parted to handle partitioning tasks with ease, has been upgraded to version 2015.01.13 and is now ready for purchase and download.

The Parted Magic OS has been missing from the news in the past year or so for one simple reason. It's no longer free. The developer decided to stop providing the operating system for free and ask for a price. This hasn't changed, but the OS did get some pretty interesting improvements that should be mentioned. It doesn't have a steep price, so it's likely that some users will be willing to pay the price.

In case it's not clear, this is an operating system designed to help users do maintenance work on systems, like partitioning. It does this by employing some applications that are already available and by providing all the tools that users might need.

As usual, each new update is usually accompanied by numerous updates made for various packages and the same happened with this one as well, although some of the update seem to be more important than others. Most of all, the dev managed to fix a bug that could cause some problems.

The makers of Parted Magic explained this in detail. "In the past a few people were getting hung up on 'Setting up system devices”. We figured out what was going on. They had DVD drives hooked to ASMedia Sata3 ports. Parted Magic now boots with a DVD drive hooked to ASMedia ports. This hangup can be reproduced on almost any newer ASUS board. The problem was not widespread because most people were not using the SATA3 port for a DVD drive."

Moreover, the Clonezilla package has been upgraded to version 3.12.7, Xfburn is now able to use gstreamer, the Firefox browser has been upgraded to 34.0.5, and the memtest utility has been added to GRUB.
