The Parsix GNU/Linux team announced on April 25 the immediate availability for download and testing of the third development release of the upcoming Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 computer operating system.

Dubbed Rinaldo, Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 is currently based on the upstream Debian 7 Wheezy repositories as of April 17, 2015. The TEST 3 development release comes with Linux kernel 3.14.38 LTS, GNOME Shell 3.14.4, and XOrg Server 1.16.4.

Highlights of Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 3 include improved desktop performance, an updated installer that features better UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) support, a new version of systemd, and many updated applications.

"Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 (code name Rinaldo) brings the latest stable GNOME desktop environment, a new kernel built using our modernized kernel build system, updated installer, a new version of systemd and an upgraded X.Org Server. This version has been synchronized with Debian Wheezy repositories as of April 17, 2015," was stated in today's announcement.

Numerous default applications have been updated

As mentioned, many of the pre-installed applications have been updated in Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 3. Among these, we can mention LibreOffice 4.3.3, GNU Iceweasel 37.0, Chromium 37.0, GIMP 2.8.2, Gparted 0.12.1, Oracle VirtualBox 4.3.18, Empathy 3.12.8, VLC Media Player 2.0.6, Grisbi 1.0.0, Glibc 2.13, and GRUB 2.

Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5's LTS kernel is now based on the upstream Linux kernel 3.14.38, but it has been optimized and patched with TuxOnIce 3.3, BFS (Brain Fuck Scheduler), and other extra patches. In addition, the Live DVD has been compressed using the latest XZ and SquashFS algorithms.

Download Parsix GNU/Linux 7.5 Test 3 right now via Softpedia. We remind everyone who is downloading the operating system that it is a pre-release version, which means that bugs might be present. Thus, we do no recommend installing it on production machines.
