We’re pretty curious how much the GX8 will end up costing

Launched not so long ago, the Panasonic GH4 has become quite popular with consumers especially since it offers 4K video capabilities for a relatively decent price tag.

Well, the good news is that Panasonic is prepping new 4K cameras, this time aiming for the entry-level market.

We’re talking about the Panasonic GX8 which will arrive with a Micro Four Thirds sensor and 4K capabilities. The shooter will be marketed as a low-end camera in order to differentiate it from the more powerful GH lineup.

The GX8 might be in the pipeline

Trusted sources reported by 43 Rumors are saying the next mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor coming out of Panasonic will be an entry-level model.

The device will be capable of shooting footage in 4K, so it will certainly attract the attention of a wider range of consumers.

The rumor doesn't talk about the GX8 in particular, but the working hypothesis is that it’s pretty unlikely that the GM-series will receive 4K support, while the G and GF have been put on hold, so we won’t see any new models on the market any time soon.

That leaves the successor of the Panasonic GX7, an MILC camera that was rolled out back in August 2013. So it makes sense that the camera in question is in fact the GX8.

The rumor mill claims the upcoming entry-level mirrorless will make a debut at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015, which usually takes place in mid-February in Japan.

Another possibility is that we could end up seeing the new camera on the grounds at CES 2015 in Las Vegas in a few weeks.

Interestingly enough, the GX7 wasn't introduced as an entry-level camera. On the contrary, the GX7 bundled everything you wanted to have in a mirrorless shooter.

The snapper boasted built-in image stabilization, an advanced and powerful sensor, tilting electronic viewfinder, tilting touchscreen, Wi-Fi, NFC, pop-up flash, manual modes and a nifty electronic shutter.

How low will the GX8 go, price-wise?

But as long as the GX8 is concerned, we don’t have the details related to its specifications, except for the part where we know it will bundle 4K.

Nevertheless, we’re quite curious to find out more about its capabilities and hopefully more info will leak out soon.

What’s even more exciting is how Panasonic is planning to market the GX8 in order to keep it in the entry-level area.

The GX7 came with a pretty spicy price tag which revolved around $1000 / €814. But the GX8 should be cheaper, a lot cheaper, and given the fact that it’s supposed to bundle 4K, we’re already pretty enthusiastic about it.
